As Dr. A. K. Coomaraswamy, curator of the
Boston Museum of Fine Arts, has stated: "The
artist, in the ancient world, was not a special kind of man, but
every man a special kind of artist. In all living and
working, the highest concern, the required aim, was to be in the
perfection of the work."
This too, is my
goal and the model which I try to present to my students.
It is in the process of creating that we transcend the object,
the mere subject, and express those feelings that represent the
deeper essence of who we are. Perfection is the
fulfillment implicit in art. Imperfection is life -- all
forms in life are imperfect, but the function of art is to see
the radiance through the imperfection. This
striving for perfection is my chosen path, and where it leads is
the adventure.
