Artist's Statement:

The journeys I have experienced throughout my life - from the streets of Brooklyn where I was born, to the Red River valleys of Texas and Oklahoma where I grew up, to Sweden where my father was born - influence my paintings.  I have also been influenced by the great masters of Italy and Holland.                                                                          

Each painting emerges spontaneously from my mind's eye, without photos or model.  I like art that communicates and art that withstands time.  For me, the joy of painting is the endless journey of exploration.  Yet there remains a visual consistency throughout my work.  I am intrigued with creating compositions of harmonious movement, comprised of juxtaposing the related shapes, continuous and circular lines that go off and back on the canvas.

For me, being in my studio and doing art is somewhat like a religious experience.  I feel blissful when I am doing it, like when I used to sit in my grandmother's live oak tree overlooking the pasture, feeling at one with nature, with something greater than myself.
